Ministry of Care to the Sick

Mission
In the Sacred Scriptures, we constantly see the care of Jesus for those who are sick and suffering.  He heals them, comforts them, forgives them and offers them new life.

The mission of the Church today is to care for the sick, just as Christ did.  It becomes our responsibility by virtue of our baptism which calls us to service.

The minister brings compassion and care of the entire community to those who are sick.  The sick must see and experience the presence and understanding of the entire Catholic community.

Purpose and Vision
To minister is to be ‘present’ to others.  The Ministry of Care to the Sick is a pastoral, (we are called Pastoral Care Volunteers) sacramental ministry which calls the members of Christ’s body to visit the sick; to show concern for them and to take them the Sacrament of Holy Communion.

As a Minister of Compassion, you must see this ministry as a call from the Lord and from the community.

As members of this ministry we bring the church and therefore the love of Jesus Christ to those unable to attend our Eucharistic celebration.

Join our Ministry
We are in desperate need of new Pastoral Care Volunteers.  Many of our volunteers have themselves become ill this year and are no longer able to help with this ministry.

We are sent forth at the 8:30 am Sunday Mass with the blessings of the community.  We rotate the areas that we visit.  We take communion one Sunday and have the next off.  If we had more ministers we would be able to do it once a month.

The requirements are:
You must be a Catholic in good standing with the church
Married in the church or single
Attend the Call to Protect classes
Attend a workshop on the Eucharist

If interested please call the rectory office 623 939 9785 and leave your name and number.
